Sundance Registration Is Now Open For Utah Locals

By diana
Nov 08, 2012

Utah residents can now register online to purchase tickets for the 2013 Sundance Film Festival.  For the first time Sundance is doing the registration totally online, which means no having to wait in line!  Registration is open through 5pm on December 17th.  Then everyone that registered will get an email on December 20th with their purchase time slots that will be scheduled for Saturday January 5, and Sunday January 6.  Locals can then log on any time from their designated time slots to the close of sale on Jan. 6th to purchase tickets.   Sundance will announce the films at the end of November and the film guide will be available in early December.

If you own Park City real estate or Deer Valley real estate and don't live here full time, you will need to visit a local DMV to obtain a state ID card, which is needed when you pick up any tickets you purchased.  They only accept Utah Driver's Licenses or State ID card as acceptable forms of identification.

The Best of Fest tickets which are free to Utah residents and Townie Tuesday tickets for Summit County residents will also be done the same days of the sale of the individual tickets.  So, you only need to register once online to be able to buy either or both.  Go to www.sundance.org/locals to sign up and best of luck on getting your tickets!

Tips on How to Avoid Sundance Traffic

By diana
Jan 17, 2012

Though you won't be able to all together avoid Sundance Film Festival traffic there are some ways to time your way around traffic and keep sane during the Festival. City Hall has complied a set of tips geared toward locals on how to navigate through the city.

Here are some of the tips mentioned:

Try to avoid the intersection of Main Street and Heber Avenue, which is very busy with pedestrians and traffic during the festival. If you have to go to Main Street take Deer Valley Drive to Marsac Ave, it will be less congested.

Try to do any errands you need to do in the Old Town area before 3pm, backups normally start around then and last until late evening, especially on Park Avenue.

If you need to go to the Main Street Post Office do so before 1pm

There is always heavy traffic on Kearns Blvd outside the Eccles Center, one of the largest venues for films.  The best course of action is to avoid Kearns Blvd in front of the High School between 10:30am – 12:00pm, 2:00pm –3:00pm, 5:00pm – 6:00pm and 8:00pm – 9:00pm.

One last thing to remember is if you want to go out to eat make reservations NOW and eat somewhere off Main Street for less stress.

Go to http://www.parkcity.org/index.aspx?page=228 for more parking tips, bus schedules, and local guide.  It has everything you need to prepare for Sundance!

  1. Jethro says:

Buses are a great way to travel and avoid traffic during the rush, but they also can become VERY over crowded and you may have to wait in the cold. If parking is a hassle to you, and you hate waiting to find a spot near Main Street, try parking at the Canyons. There are many local shuttle companies and buses available to transport people from there to a desired location. If you don't mind the wait and you don't have any money, riding in the bus is quite entertaining and can be a very fun alternative. See you at Sundance! Your friends at Shuttle Park City

Sundance Expects Recreation Center To Be Ready For Films

By diana
Dec 22, 2011

Sundance Film Festival plans to return to one of their largest screening rooms this January after construction of the Park City Municipal Athletic and Recreation Center is finally being completed.  What used to be the Racquet Club was torn down last year to create the new Recreation Center and thus wasn't usable for the 2011 Sundance Festival.

The City Hall pushed back the opening of the facility from mid-December until early January, with the grand-opening on January 12th.  Sundance opens on January 19th.  The gymnasium will be configured into a theater with an estimated 550 seats during Sundance.  Sundance organizers are very happy to have the screening room back this year, and residents are excited for the 10.5 million Recreation Center to open in 2012!
