St. Regis Deer Crest Resort in Deer Valley offering Oktoberfest Activities

By diana
Sep 30, 2010

The St. Regis Deer Crest located in beautiful Lower Deer Valley has announced they are offering "Oktoberfest Refined,"  the whole month of October.  Instead of winding down like most resorts do during the slow time of October the St. Regis wanted to offer weekly festivities for locals and those visiting Park City.

Oktoberfest Refined is designed to spotlight the resort's culinary offerings.  The weekend festivities will start each Friday at 6:30pm with the Tapping of the Keg, an activity that signals the start of the Oktoberfest celebration.  This Friday October 1st Park City Mayor Dana Williams is going to tap the first keg and other local celebrities are slated to execute the tapping the following weeks.  The kegs will be filled with local Squatters/Wasatch beer makers "St. Regis Oktoberfest" made specifically for the event.  Friday will also feature live music and multiple food stations made almost entirely from local sources.  Saturdays will include live music from 11am-5pm along with a la Carte lunch, Bocce ball tournament, and starting at 6pm beer sabering, and then the beer vs. wine dinner.  The Sunday program will have a bar brunch from 10am to 1pm featuring the St. Regis Bloody Mary menu and up to 8 different egg Benedict recipes.  NFL football will be shown all day.

The St. Regis is also offering discounted prices to locals at $175 a night plus free valet parking and a $50 resort credit.  So, go check out the gorgeous St. Regis and enjoy the unparalleled views of Deer Valley and Park City during Oktoberfest!

By diana
Sep 29, 2010

In the largest beer competition in North America, Wasatch Brewery located on Main Street in Park City was named mid-sized "Brewery of the Year."  Wasatch Brew Pub makes up half of the Utah Brewery Cooperative with Squatters Pubs making up the other half, which also has a location in Park City and in Salt Lake City.

Wasatch Brew Pub won a gold medal for it's seasonal Summerbrau beer in the "German-style Oktoberfest" category.  Squatters won gold with its' Wit Bier in the "Session Beer" category (low alcohol content).  Squatters also won a bronze for its' Hell's Keep beer in the "Belgian-style strong specialty ale" category.  With more than 3500 beers submitted in 79 categories from across the country it is quite an honor to get gold, an amazing feat and one that the Utah Brewer Cooperative is very proud of.

To experience these great beers you can go to Wasatch Brew Pub located at the top of Main Street or to Squatters located on Park Avenue in Park City or in downtown Salt Lake.  Both also offer great food and a  fun atmosphere to hang out with friends or watch the game.

Deer Valley Specialist Real Estate Tip of the Week: Home Warranties

By Delia Reece
Sep 27, 2010

Home Warranties – The Facts

Fact - Home Warranties cost money.

Fact - They’re worth it.

Arranging for a home warranty can stop a potential problem dead in its tracks and save buyers, sellers and agents time and big headaches.  Offering a home warranty with a closing is a great idea to forestall buyer’s remorse and even potential problems after closing.

After the closing, when the buyer has moved in, they may insist that something is broken that they shouldn’t have to pay for and insisting even more that the seller pay for the repair.  Regardless of whether it was broken before the closing or after, a home warranty can handle that possible problem.  With a home warranty, the company that holds it will take over, taking the seller and the agent out of the loop and avoiding any potential problems.  Instead of calling you, the new homeowner will call the company.

Having a home warranty takes the responsibility for repairs and negotiations for repairs out of the hands of the buyer and agent and puts it away from them, saving the possibility of future relationships for all parties concerned.

Peace of mind is worth the cost.

The Canyons and Summitt County Launch New Canyons Golf Course

By diana
Sep 23, 2010

The must anticipated ground breaking of a long-planned golf course at the Canyons Resort was jointly announced by Summit County and Canyons Resort on September 21st.  The golf course has been planned since 1999 but with the purchase of The Canyons by the Talisker Corporation in 2008 a renewed effort was put forth to bring it to fruition.  The course will be constructed by The Canyons Golf Club, LLC, beginning this month and is expected to be finished in August of 2013.  It will be an environmentally sensitive 18 hole course, designed by Gene Bates, an award winning golf course designer.  It will be a public golf course, something that Canyons saw a need for in Park City, since the majority of courses here are private.

This morning on the the local radio station KCPW Mike Goar the Canyons Managing Director spoke about the many developments going on to make the Canyons one of the very best all season mountain destinations in the country.  With the new Iron Mountain trails, new lifts, restaurants, and snow making abilities along with the golf course it is the biggest development of any ski resort in North America in the last few years.  From a real estate perspective this will be good for sales at the Canyons because a golf course makes the location even more desirable.  The new Iron Mountain trails and lift will also allow greater ski access to homes in The Colony development.

For more information on all the new improvments at the Canyons read our blog from a few weeks ago here:  http://bit.ly/cwZEjw  or go to www.thecanyons.com.

Deer Valley, Park City, and Canyons Resort's Season Ski Passes

By diana
Sep 22, 2010

Got skiing on your mind?  Well, so do many others and all three Park City ski resorts have come out with their Season Ski Pass offerings for the 2010-2011 season.  Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Resort have changed their pass options while Deer Valley Resort is the same except a modest increase in the single ticket price for an adult to $75.

Canyons is introducing Silver, Gold, and Platinum season passes, all with different perks to entice locals to take advantage of all the amenities the Canyons provides.  The price of the basic adult pass now called Silver, went up 10 percent, to help pay for all the improvements they have installed during the summer.  Most notably the faster Gondolas, quads,  and snow-making capabilities.

Park City Mountain Resort is offering a lower price point for their adult season passes this year.  You can choose to add options to your pass such as Fast Tracks, underground parking, and night skiing.  They are calling this "My Pass, My Way."  Passes start at $699 and go up to $1299 depending on what perks you select.

Deer Valley adult pass is $1630 and $1320 for a second pass.  A midweek pass is $830.  So, weigh your options and decide where you want to spend your time skiing this winter.  But don't delay prices go up after the end of October!

See below for an outline of the your pass options at all three Park City Resorts.  This is from The Park Record:

Sundance Film Festival in Park City: Lottery for Local Festival Passes

By diana
Sep 21, 2010

The Sundance Film Festival will once again be taking over Park City January 21st-30th, 2011.  It is a time for celebrity sightings, media swarming Main Street, endless parties, and empty ski slopes (hooray for that)!  The Sundance Film Festival is offering special ticketing options for Utah locals to thank them for welcoming them into the community.  Since Sundance has become so popular the last few years it has gotten extremely hard to get tickets to events and screenings.  So, the Sundance Film Festival is offering affordable pricing and priority access with Locals-Only Festival Passes, Ticket Packages, and Individual Tickets specially designed for Utah residents.

Registration begins today September 21st through October 13th.  You must have a Utah Drivers License or official ID and some other proof that you are a resident (such as utility bill).  This is your chance to secure yourself the luxury of going to multiple screenings and parties!

Go here for more information and to register for tickets: https://www.sundance.org/festival/tickets/locals/.  Good luck!

Deer Valley Specialist Tip of the Week: Location of Your Real Estate

By Delia Reece
Sep 20, 2010

Working with Location

You can change almost any fact about your house except for one immutable thing.  Its location.  You can change its size with renovation, the features with re-design and its condition with a contractor, but you can’t change where it is.

Buyers who will pay for the privilege of a luxury home will take into account where a house sits just as much as they will the wine cellar or the ultimate home gym.  These buyers want proximity to the best shops, restaurants and spa facilities as well as the theatre and art galleries.  If they have children of school age, they’ll want to know where the best schools are, whether their children are six or sixteen.

If you have a house that is spectacular in every way except perhaps the location, a Realtor can help you utilize all of the positives already at your disposal and turn that one negative into a selling point.

Yes, location is key, but together with your Realtor, you can market your house to the best of its and your ability.
