Park City Featured in Wine Spectator Magazine

By diana
Oct 27, 2011

In the most recent issue of Wine Spectator Magazine, Park City was not only mentioned but featured in a 5 page article about how it has become a true food-and-wine destination.  Ten Park City restaurants won either Award of Excellence or Best of Award of Excellence awards.  The article hits on the facts that a major appeal of Park City is the easy access to Salt Lake City Airport, plenty of powder, and a selection of restaurants worthy of the amazing ski slopes.

The magazine features 4 restaurants in the article starting with The Farm at Canyons Resort and what they call, "Excellent simplicity," food and a wine list of over 300 wines.  Next they talk about Glitretind at Stein Erikson Lodge in Upper Deer Valley, and say it is "arguably home to Park City's most refined food-and-wine experience." Then they rave about J&G Grill at St. Regis Deer Valley with their beautiful wine vault and hearty American fare from well-known chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.  Lastly is Talisker on Main located on Main Street and run by Park City's Talisker Club.  Where the kitchen isn't afraid to take chances and a fine list of 225 wines complements the restaurant's stately sophistication.

The article also mentions St. Regis Deer Valley, Sky Lodge, and Waldorf Astoria Park City as the "places to stay."  We are glad to see Park City getting so much recognition for it's variety of excellent restaurants and growing appreciation of good wine.  We just aren't some small mining town anymore!

How's the Market in Park City? 3rd Quarter Real Estate Stats

By Delia Reece
Oct 25, 2011

The Park City Board of Realtors recently released 3rd Quarter data.  As the three graphs below indicate, demand is up over 2010, as evidenced in the pended & sold transactions. Prices are still down, however our real estate market appears to have bottomed as sold prices for Single Family homes are up 4.5% overall. Could this indicate a market recovery this year?  Perhaps, as inventory levels are down.

Deer Valley Real Estate Tip of the Week: How Clean is Your Offer?

By Delia Reece
Oct 24, 2011

Even though it’s a buyer’s market in most areas, when you are making an offer on a home, it’s always good to make your offer as “clean” as possible, especially if you've fallen in love with a particular property and don’t want to lose it to another buyer.

A clean offer is about the terms of the agreement. For example, if you are paying with cash or have a pre-approval letter from your lender, your offer will be much more attractive to the seller. Also if your purchase isn’t contingent upon the sale of another home, the closing dates work with the seller’s needs, and you don’t ask for a lot of unusual repairs, then you have an offer that can’t be resisted.

A clean offer will be more attractive to a seller, even if you are offering less money than your competition. In the end, a clean offer can save you more money and time, and give you that extra edge at the bargaining table.

Development on the Upswing in Summit County

By diana
Oct 19, 2011

The Park Record, recently reported that two housing projects ranging in size from 105 units to 1,100 units, recently moved forward with development plans, a sure sign that the economy is on the upswing in Summit County.  The county issued 72 building permits this August the most they have issued all year and more than the previous three Augusts.

There has also been a huge bump in inspections.  There were more inspections performed last week then the entire month of October.  Some of it due to cold weather coming and another because more construction is starting because people are expecting a better economy this spring.

Executive Chef at Canyons Resort Gets National Attention

By diana
Oct 18, 2011

Chef John Murcko is not just the talk of Park City but is also being recognized on a national level as an inspired chef using regional in-season ingredients to delight any palate.  SKI Magazine just featured a whole article on Chef Murcko who is the Executive Chef at Canyons Resort and oversees 25 restaurants.  He is one of a handful of ski resort chef's shifting toward regional, seasonal foods, which requires advance planning and local networking.  This not only makes the food taste better but alters Utah's economy for the better, providing the state's small food producers more business.

Chef Murcko's newest restaurant is The Farm right a the base of Canyon's Resort.  It serves modernized Southern comfort food with a Wasatch twist.  We have had the chance to try The Farm a few times this summer and fall and the portions are plentiful and always delicious.  Simple things like Ham and Pea soup somehow get turned into a flavorful journey in your mouth.  The menu changes with the seasons so you can expect something fresh and inventive every-time you go.

Along with the accolades Chef Murcko and The Farm received,  Canyons Resort was also ranked the #16 ski resort in North America and #9 in best on-mountain food by SKI Magazine readers.  Canyons is also revamping several of their restaurants this winter so we expect even better things are to come.  If you come to Park City it is worth the trip to Canyons Resort to see all the improvements they have made the last year and of course have lunch or dinner at any of their great restaurants.
