Park City Nordic Ski Team Dominates Idaho Race

By diana
Dec 29, 2011

The Park City Nordic Ski Team started off this season's race schedule on December 17th and 18th in Sun Valley, Idaho.  The J2 girls team took five of the top-eight spots in the 3.7K skate-style race, and had the same results in the classic race, the next day.  Park City's Sophie McDonald and Leah Lange finished first and second in both races.

Because of the lack of snow this year, the Park City ski teams have had to be creative in their training.  They have been skiing on frozen lakes, roller skiing, and frequenting the gym more than normal.  It seems like it is working because they are off to a great start!  The national championships will be held at Solider Hollow in early March.

Deer Valley Specialist Real Estate Tip of the Week: Baby Boomers Housing Revival

By Delia Reece
Dec 27, 2011

With home loan restrictions tightening for first-time homebuyers, real estate experts are now looking to the baby boom generation (those born between 1945 and 1960) to bring new life to the housing market.

Most maturing homeowners have lived in one place for many years and have built substantial equity in their homes, which can translate into a large down payment on a new home. According to the National Association of Home Builders, 60% of older homebuyers make down payments of more than 30% on new homes, making it much easier to get a loan.

The other important factor is that this group of homeowners is looking to make a change. They want to move to homes that accommodate their evolving needs. With housing affordability reaching an all-time high, baby boomers are eager to move to homes that offer more amenities and age-specific features.

If you are looking to relocate, be sure to talk with your REALTOR® about what type of home will best support your lifestyle.

Sundance Expects Recreation Center To Be Ready For Films

By diana
Dec 22, 2011

Sundance Film Festival plans to return to one of their largest screening rooms this January after construction of the Park City Municipal Athletic and Recreation Center is finally being completed.  What used to be the Racquet Club was torn down last year to create the new Recreation Center and thus wasn't usable for the 2011 Sundance Festival.

The City Hall pushed back the opening of the facility from mid-December until early January, with the grand-opening on January 12th.  Sundance opens on January 19th.  The gymnasium will be configured into a theater with an estimated 550 seats during Sundance.  Sundance organizers are very happy to have the screening room back this year, and residents are excited for the 10.5 million Recreation Center to open in 2012!

All Three Park City Ski Resorts Rank High in Environmental Report

By diana
Dec 20, 2011

The Ski Area Citizens' Coalition, a nonprofit organization based in Colorado, released their annual report detailing the environmental practices of every ski and snowboard resort in the country.  We are proud to announce that Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain Resort  both got an "A" and Canyons got a "B."

Resorts are graded based on four categories: habitat protection, watershed protection, environmental policies and practices, and addressing global climate change.  Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain Resort received straight A's in every grading category, both ranking within the top 5 resorts in the nation.  Canyons Resort received an overall B, scoring high in environmental policies and practices.  Other resorts in Utah were not listed near as high as all three Park City resorts.

Great job to all three, it goes to show that Park City really does care about our best resource...the earth.

Deer Valley Specialist Real Estate Tip of the Week - Sellers: Get Wired

By Delia Reece
Dec 19, 2011

In today’s hyper-technological environment, one way to get the attention of would-be home buyers is to highlight any computerized systems in your house when you advertise, because, according to a survey of 1,793 members of the National Association of Realtors conducted by the Consumer Electronics Association, home buyers get very excited over anything that’s electronic.

Having Internet access available throughout the home is an essential technological upgrade, but these days, many home buyers are looking for a little more. Some of the hottest selling features are home security systems, home automation systems, and energy management systems. And since more families are enjoying their entertainments at home, a home theater system can be a very strong selling point to buyers.

If you are planning to make an electronic upgrade to your home in order to sell it, be sure to talk to your REALTOR® about what improvements would be the most cost-effective to you and the most attractive to buyers in your area.
