Deer Valley Specialist Real Estate Tip of the Week: Home Comfort

By Delia Reece
May 31, 2011

You think of your house as a refuge from the outside world, we all do.  That’s part of what buyers are looking for and one of the best ways to market a house is to make the buyer feel as if they must have that sanctuary.

You can help that feeling along by creating at least one space that tells a buyer, “Come right in here, put your feet up and relax.”

With warmer weather, you can create an outdoor space that will tell buyers, “This is it, you’re home, no need to look further.”

Find a space outside that’s calm and has a great view, then start decorating.  Start with a simple set up, wicker chairs and a sofa with thick cushions in a nice neutral color.  Splash those neutrals with muted throw pillows, maybe even a small blanket and add a simple area rug in muted tones and a subtle pattern to place under the furniture.  Place low wattage lamps on end tables and you’re set with your sanctuary!

Park City Olympic Aerialist Given Prestigious Honor

By diana
May 24, 2011

Park City resident and three-time Olympic Aerialist Tracy Evans was awarded the Female Athlete Philanthropist of the Year Award by the United Athletes Foundation.  Evans received the award at a  black-tie gala that was held in Manhattan, NY in early May.  Her philanthropic efforts in Malawi and Rwanda got her the recognition from her athletic and humanitarian peers.  In 2008 Evans took a volunteer trip to Malawi, and once she got there realized that she could make a difference through sports.  She worked at an orphanage where she introduced the kids to baseball and volleyball.  The kids loved learning a new sport and so she started her own nonprofit organization, Kids Play International, in December 2008.  It 's goal being to build and organize sustainable school sports clubs in Rwanda and Malawi.

Evans was very surprised and honored to receive the award and even more so when she learned the male recipient is Jerry Rice the Hall of Fame wide receiver!  Evans will be returning to Africa this June with other former winter Olympians to continue her work there. We are so proud to have such a great athlete and humanitarian living in Park City, congratulations Tracy on all your hard work!

Deer Valley Specialist Real Estate Tip of the Week: Choosing a Contractor

By Delia Reece
May 23, 2011

As you prepare your home, hiring the best to get it ready is essential.  Check references and ask if they did a good job in a timely manner.  Would they hire that particular contractor again?  One of the best ways to find the right person to do the work is to ask around.  Your neighbors, your friends and colleagues will probably know someone and that’s always better than just pulling someone out of the phone book.  After you’ve chosen someone, the importance of a written contract cannot be over estimated.  The phrase “Worth the paper it’s written on” is a cliché for a reason.  With anyone, whether it’s the contractor or the plumber, putting on paper what is expected in terms of service is essential.  Once it’s on paper and signed, you’re good to go.  Both you and they know what’s expected and what needs to happen.

Be specific in the contract.  Appreciate the fact that they’ve worked hard, but that when it comes to finished work for a house that’s about to go on the market, ‘almost’ isn’t what will sell your house.  While there’s no such thing as perfect, there is such a thing called ‘as good as it can get.’

Study Shows that Sundance Generates Big Money for Park City

By diana
May 19, 2011

Park City residents know that Sundance Film Festival brings a lot of people to our town, but what kind of money does it bring in?  Well in 2011 Sundance Film Festival generated an overall economic impact of $70.8 million for the State of Utah.  According to a study done by University of Utah's Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the David Eccles School of Business, $27 million of that was media exposure, and $6 million was tax revenue.

Since 2001, the Sundance Institute Economy has brought in excess of one-half billion dollars into Utah.  2011 figures show an increase over 2010 figures.  The amount of media coverage that the Sundance film festival brings  has helped many people realize where Park City is  whereas before they might have never known.  Just from Jan. 15 to Feb 15, 2011 the Festival generated 1,691 broadcast stories, with an approximate total of 287,041,253 audience impressions resulting in more than $12,994,347 in publicty values!

Plus, factor in that we had 961,730 unique visitors coming for 210 countries and we couldn't ask for better exposure.  Even though we may hate the traffic, endless lines everywhere you go, and people wondering around aimlessly, it is all worth it!  It brings great attention and an appreciation for the arts to Park City and that is a win-win situation.
