Canyons and Solitude Link Considered

By diana
Sep 28, 2011

Talisker, the parent company of Canyons, acknowledged this week they are considering a link to Solitude Mountain Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon.  The alignment would roughly run from the top of the Dreamcatcher lift at Canyons to a spot at the lower parking lot at Solitude.  It is rumored that Solitude officials support the idea.

No time line has been set and permitting on the Solitude side would have to get approved through the United States Forest Service, plus other approvals from Salt Lake County and Summit County.  More details are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.  A connection would create 5200 acres of skiing terrain between the two resorts, a huge expanse that would make a big impact on marketing.  But opposition is sure to come to from environmental watch dog groups.  We will see what happens with this big announcement in the coming months!

Now that the Canyons has expanded their terrain, big changes are coming to their food scene this winter.  Talisker has announced that they are opening the first certified kosher restaurant at any ski resort in the country inside the Silverado Lodge.  It is going to be called Bistro at Canyons with Talisker's executive chef John Murcko and staff preparing to-go kosher breakfasts and lunches.  The cuisine will be innovative but on the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon traditional Sabbath meals will be offered.  They will also plan kosher meal services for the entire vacation for families coming to visit the resort.  The restaurant will also features an attached synagogue.

The Hyatt Escala

The Hyatt Escala Lodge recently started on a $3.5 million development of a restaurant and market to be called Hyatt Escala Provisions Company.  It will be a gourmet food market, restaurant, and bar rolled into one.  It is scheduled to open in November.  The idea is to allow hotel guests to choose between enjoying a traditional restaurant atmosphere  or buy food to prepare in their private kitchens.  Executive chef Amanda Buchanan who came from the Hyatt Regency Atlanta will bring a menu of modern comfort food with an emphasis on local ingredients.

Deer Valley Specialist Real Estate Tip of the Week: Offer on the Table

By Delia Reece
Sep 26, 2011

It’s been a lot of work getting your home ready for sale and you can’t wait to see it finally sold. So when your REALTOR® calls with your first bid, you are thrilled! Your euphoria is short-lived, however, when you hear that the offer is lower than you asked for. Should you work with this offer or wait for a better one?

One of the biggest mistakes a seller can make is to wait too long for something better. Usually offers that come in the first weeks of a listing are the most legitimate, and often one of the first buyers who responds to your listing is the one who ends up with your home.

So if you don’t like the original bid, your REALTOR® can help you come up with a counter-offer that is a reasonable compromise. A serious buyer will be willing to negotiate. Each party will have to make some concessions, but both should feel like winners in the end.  For rock solid advice on buying or selling real estate, call Craig Reece at 435-647-8017 or toll free at 866-709-8016. Deer Valley Specialist Real Estate Tip of the Week: Your Credit Report

By Delia Reece
Sep 19, 2011

It’s important to take advantage of the government’s Fair Credit Reporting Act and get your free credit report every year, even if you aren't planning to get a loan soon. And when you do get your report, it’s essential to go over all the information in detail because, according to a study by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group, nearly 80% of credit reports contain mistakes.

Inaccuracies in your credit report could cost you time and money during a loan process or could even derail it altogether. So it’s important to dispute any mistakes like incorrect account balances, bills from non-existing accounts, lower credit limits, old items that were handled years ago and even wrong addresses. All of these errors can raise suspicion with a lender and could impede the loan process.

Correcting your report is quite straightforward. Just go online to www.ftc.gov/freereports and follow their simple 2 step process to get your credit report up-to-date and in good condition before you meet with your lender.  For rock solid advice on buying or selling real estate, call Craig Reece at 435-647-8017 or toll free at 866-709-8016.
