SkiLink Controversy Makes National News

By diana
May 31, 2012

A proposed project known as SkiLink that would connect Canyons and Solitude Ski Resorts across a three mile span in two counties is big news in Utah and now the nation.  It is a battle of conversation versus development.  Two bills are now competing in Congress as to whether the proposed gondola connecting the resorts will happen.  The New York Times wrote an excellent article explaining both sides of the argument.

Deer Valley Specialist Real Estate Tip of the Week: Win-Win Negotiations

By Delia Reece
May 29, 2012

Everyone likes to win. In real estate, the best way to feel like a success is to have all parties get up from the table feeling good about the deal.

Even when conducting the sale of a multi-million dollar luxury home, where the negotiations are sometimes done through third party representatives, the final agreements are ultimately made by the buyer and the seller. It makes a big difference if they both approach the sale in the spirit of cooperation.

In coming to terms on certain issues, there can be some disagreements. So it is essential that both parties come to the table knowing what points are most important to them and where they can compromise.

The best qualities to bring to the bargaining table are clarity about your priorities, the ability to listen to others needs, and trust that you will all come away satisfied. Your REALTOR® is an expert with negotiating real estate transactions and will be an invaluable help in working out a “win-win” solution.

Deer Valley Specialist Real Estate Tip: Baby Boomers Affect Housing Trends

By diana
May 21, 2012

Did you know that every 8 seconds another American turns 50? At 76 million, our “baby boom” generation is becoming the largest senior population in human history. With so many people making the transition into the “golden years”, the way we look at housing is changing.

This generation of seniors is very different than previous ones. They are more independent, physically active, tech-savvy and environmentally conscious. When it comes to housing, they want smaller, easy maintenance homes that are energy efficient and close to walking trails or other recreation areas. According to a survey by Del Web, more than 50% want to keep working from home, so an Internet connection is essential.

Baby boomers don’t want to be reminded of aging, so universal design features will be blended invisibly into the architecture, like grab bars, safety lighting and smart-tech health monitors.

This generation’s love of community, healthy lifestyle, an active work/volunteer life and the need for physical security will significantly affect new directions in housing trends.
