Deer Valley Specialist Blog

The 2019 Sundance Film Festival kicks off today and so we thought it fitting to post tips for getting through it without being gobbled up by the chaos.  If done right Sundance Film Festival can be a great experience filled with memories and good times.  Park City Magazine published a great article detailing this check it out here: Tips for Surviving Sundance

One good thing about Sundance is nobody goes skiing so the slopes are pretty empty and which can make for some great skiing or boarding.  Also, after about next Wednesday things really do slow down and lots of the visitors leave town, so if you want to see movies or shows we recommend going after Wednesday the 30th, traffic will be much less around Park City.

Have a safe and fun Sundance Film

If you are coming into Park City for the long Martin Luther King weekend, you will be very happy with the snow forecast! We already had a good start with resorts getting 6-10" yesterday and the big storm is just getting starting as we speak and will continue through Friday.  Forecasters are predicting between 1-2 feet of snow and more then likely over 20 inches at least in Park City.  The storm is already dropping snow right now but it will increase tonight and all day Friday, tailing off Friday night.  Saturday and Sunday will clear for great blue-bird skiing and then another storm is set to come in on Monday with anywhere from 6-12" predicted.

So, get those powder skies ready and come experience the famous Utah powder!  For the full forecast report

A recent article by thetravel.com lists 15 beautiful cities in the US to visit but only 9 of the 15 as not being overrated.  Park City made the list of the 9 cities worth the visit!  The article says Park City is an amazing city for those that enjoy outdoor activities, and we couldn't agree more! It goes on to say even if your aren't super into outdoorsy things, there is quaint Main Street with its cute shops,  après-ski bars, and fine dining restaurants.  You don't have to worry about hours of traffic in Park City and the drive from the Salt Lake International Airport is an easy 35 minutes.

The famous Midway Ice Castles opened this past Saturday at the Homestead Resort in Midway, just 25 minutes from Park City.  Icy fortresses, slippery slides and frozen waterfalls decorate an acre of land outfitted with interactive light and music displays.  It is a feast for your eyes and a major attraction that thousands of people come to see every winter.  They have been building the ice castles since November with over 20 million pounds of ice!

It is highly recommended that you buy your tickets in advance online as they only let a set amount of people in per hour so it doesn't get too crowded.  The ice castles open at 4pm on weekdays and noon on Saturdays and are closed on Sunday.  We do have to say going after dark is ideal due to the amazing lights
