First Friday Fireworks

January 4 @ 2:30 - 5:30 p.m.

There are few parts of our lives that aren’t intertwined with the internet. Now is your chance to get the perspective of one of the pioneers who helped create it. Jaron Lanier, scientist, musician, writer, and virtual entrepreneur, has dedicated his life to improving our world through digital culture. The Human Element

January 10 @ 7 p.m.

Presented by Park City Film as part of the Reel Community Series, The Human Element follows renowned photographer James Balog as he documents the clash of humans and environmental change. Never more important than today, Balog explores the natural elements (air, earth, fire, water) as he takes on wildfires, hurricanes, rising sea levels, coal mining, and the changes in the air we breathe. The post-film discussion features The Human Element producer Olivia Ahnemann, who has been producing and directing documentary films for nearly 20 years, and Sharon Anderson Morris, CEO FiReFilms. parkcityfilm.org

National Geographic Live! On the Trail of Big Cats with Steve Winter

January 19 @ 7:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Legendary National Geographic photographer Steve Winter comes to the Eccles Center for an evening of big cats. Winter will share tales from his assignments chasing tiger populations in Asia, rare snow leopards in the Himalayas, and jaguars in Latin America. Sundance Film Festival

January 24 - February 3 

The world famous independent film festival brings Hollywood elite and first-time filmmakers from around the globe for a 10-day celebration of storytelling. Check out feature length films, documentaries, shorts, virtual reality projects, workshops, and much more.
