The 2020 Sundance Film Festival is scheduled to run from Jan. 23 through Feb. 2.

Before filmmakers and industry insiders, “people in black” and celebrities converge on Park City, Salt Lake City and Sundance Resort, Utah residents get the opportunity to buy their film festival ticket package and passes on Tuesday, Oct. 15, two days before the general public.

Utah residents will have three options:

• The $500 Locals SLC Pass. Passholders will have access to all Sundance screenings in Salt Lake City, with priority entrance, and an official festival credential.

• The $300 Locals 10 Ticket Package. Those who purchase this package will get 10 tickets to the films and venues of their choice, along with two official festival credentials.

After 10 days and 121 features films, the 2019 Sundance Film Festival awarded 28 prizes to filmmakers.  There are several categories for the awards: U.S. Grand Jury Documentary and Dramatic, World Cinema Grand Jury Documentary and Dramatic, Audience Award U.S. Documentary and Dramatic, Audience Award World Documentary and Dramatic, Directing Awards, Special Jury Awards, and NEXT Awards.

The 2019 Sundance Film Festival kicks off today and so we thought it fitting to post tips for getting through it without being gobbled up by the chaos.  If done right Sundance Film Festival can be a great experience filled with memories and good times.  Park City Magazine published a great article detailing this check it out here: Tips for Surviving Sundance 

One good thing about Sundance is nobody goes skiing so the slopes are pretty empty and which can make for some great skiing or boarding.  Also, after about next Wednesday things really do slow down and lots of the visitors leave town, so if you want to see movies or shows we recommend going after Wednesday the 30th, traffic will be much less around Park City.

The Sundance Institute announced today the 2019 selected Feature Films for the Sundance Film Festival.  For the 2019 Festival, 112 feature-length films have been selected, representing 33 countries and 45 first-time filmmakers.  These films were selected from a record high of 14,259 submissions including 4,018 feature-length films.  Only Feature Films were announced today, Shorts, Indie Episodic and New Frontier, are forthcoming.

The categories for 2019 Feature Films are: U.S Dramatic, U.S. Documentary, World Cinema Dramatic, World Cinema Documentary, Premieres, Documentary Premieres, Midnight, Spotlight, Next, and Kids.  In 2018, the Festival drew 124,900 attendees from 49 U.S. states and 26 other countries, generated $191.6 million in economic

The Sundance Institute which hosts the Sundance Film Festival each year recently announced the economic results of 2018 festival on Utah.  This year was record breaking, generating $191.6 million in state gross domestic product, a 40 million increase from 2017, and reported attendees also increased from 71,600 last year to 124,900 this year.  They estimate about 36 percent of the attendees or 45,000 people came from out of state. There were 80,0000 Utah attendees.  

Sundance Film Festival helped create 3,323 jobs, and it generated $19 million in state and local taxes up from last year's 14 million.  The film festival can sometimes be overwhelming for Park City residents, but the economic impact on Park City and Utah is beneficial.
